In a recent review of rural health in Australia, there is evidence of a spending deficit of $6.5billion, nearly $850 per person a year for people living in rural Australia.

This means poorer access to health care and poorer health outcomes for rural Australians. There is an opportunity to support better health, working alongside communities, with an inter-professional lens to education, research and health workforce. Occupational therapists can play a key role in supporting this approach to serving communities in rural settings, and we have already found this in models of inter-professional learning we are conducting in aged care facilities in Northern Rivers.

An update of this will be provided, with a view to supporting a future with better health outcomes for all.
